What are Art and Craft activities?
Arts and Crafts describe a wide variety of activities involving making things with one’s own hands, often using material like paper, card, threads, ice cream sticks, thermocol balls, paper plates etc.
It’s often a way of expressing yourself visually making aesthetically pleasing objects.
Why should you invest in a art and craft kit for your child ?
Arts and Crafts are scientifically known to enhance Critical Thinking, Problem Solving and Creativity of the person/child involved in such activities.
Art and Craft activities Boost:
Encouraging your child to express himself/herself and take risks while creating art will improve his/her SENSE OF INNOVATION which is important for adult lives.
Problem Solving Skills :
The experience of taking decisions and making choices while doing arts and crafts activities resemble those required for solving problems in day-to-day life.
Critical Thinking Skills :
One of the best ways to improve critical thinking in your child is to give him/her open ended arts and crafts projects which they can use to make new things.
Fine Motor Skills :
Many of the motions involved in Art and Craft, such as holding crayons and glue sticks, pressing while sticking a paper over another etc., work towards helping your child in building essential Fine Motor Skills.
Visual Learning :
Research says that kids learn most of the things from visuals. They even learn to speak by watching the way lips move. An arts and craft activity goes a long way in helping kids develop visual-spatial skills.
Communication Skills :
Arts and crafts activities help in teaching your child to communicate visually i.e How to express things they don’t even have words for yet. This in itself is the MOST BEAUTIFUL thing about it.
What does the world say about it ?
Researchers from the Michigan State University have found a very strong co-relation between childhood engagement in the creative arts and measurable success later in life.
Children who were exposed to a wide variety of arts and crafts were MORE LIKELY TO CREATE UNIQUE INVENTIONS THAT ARE WORTHY OF PATENTS, come up with ideas good enough to start a new company, or publish provocative papers on science and technology.
The research also suggests that exposure to arts and crafts at an early age boosted the ability to think “OUT OF THE BOX” in children which made them more likely to be successful in their chosen field.
“Parents need to be aware that children learn a lot more from graphic sources than any other mediums,” says Dr. Kerry Freedman, Head of Art and Design Education at Northern Illinois University
