5 Mistakes That Parents Make In The First Year
The first year that a couple has their baby is a time of learning and groping their way. In their eagerness to do their best for their child they sometimes stumble and make mistakes. It is alright to do that –it is important to learn from these mistakes and become better parents.
Excluding or alienating the father:
Since the mother has been the focus during pregnancy, it is easy to forget that the father has had a part to play in the making of the child. It is important to draw him in and make him a part of the daily caring ritual of the child. It is hoped that the father has been a loving and caring partner in the care of his wife during pregnancy. If that has been the case, it will be easy for him to slip into his role and to bond with the baby. If for some reason, he’s not been around then he should try to get close to his wife and child and care for them and bond with them. When the father is alienated from this circle, an important member is missing. Sometimes, a mother has to for various reasons be a single parent. In that case she has to try to get the help of other family members to care for the baby.
This manifests itself in overfeeding the child so that the child is unable to digest the food. Overfeeding in infancy can lead to obesity in later years.
Some parents tend to put on too much clothing on the baby resulting in the child being uncomfortable and unable to sleep at nights. Or even when being taken out in good weather, the child is overdressed-it results in the child being cranky because of his discomfort.
The effect of neglect on a child might not be visible at an early stage. However, the impacts of neglect are harmful and possibly long-lasting for the victims. It could be a very simple thing: It has happened that a parent is distracted and busy talking with her neighbor. The baby has been left out in the hot sun. If the child keeps crying because of this, the mother couldn’t understand the reason for the baby’s crying.
Impatience to see your child’s progress through all the milestones quickly:
The baby was born in its time and you waited. So why not take each step in your stride. Your child will grow a little at a time, slowly and will cover all the milestones. As your child learns new skills, and overcome obstacles, you will discover that your wait will have been worthwhile. Don’t compare your child with others, at such an early stage it is impossible to come to conclusions.
Balance is required:
While there is a need for a schedule to avoid total chaos in your life; at the same time if you are unable to keep strictly to it, don’t be upset. ; Let it go for a little while. When you are able, get back into a structure which is there to guide you without it having a strangle hold on you.
