Are you going through one of the toughest phases of parenting – ‘The Stage of the Terrible Two’s?
Almost every parent gets scared with all the buzz about the terrible two’s of toddlers.
But, is it really that bad?
It surely is very tough to handle a toddler around the age of two, and sometimes, could make you feel depressed and helpless.
As they say, “Two… two…. Boohuhu..….oh God! what to do?”
At this age, your child is stubborn, head strong and says ‘No’ to almost everything.
In this post, you will come across the basics to handle your toddler when he/she is around two years.
Handling your Two Year Old Baby
All this frustration is because at this age, your child will always want to do everything by himself-on his own.
Though this mayhem is not restricted to just ‘two’ and could come at any time, this stage is surely a roller coaster ride for every parent.
Here, are some of the sure shot ways of handling two’s successfully without losing out on your cool.
1. Increase social interaction
One of the best ways to deal with toddlers is to give them some sort of a positive distraction.
Taking a toddler for at least an hour to a park every day, is a good change.
At two, your toddler is always looking for the company of other kids.
You could also enroll your little one in some fun activity classes.
2. Involve in productive play activities
You will have to devote a lot of time to your toddler who is nearing two. Colouring, drawing, singing rhymes, narrating anecdotes and short stories is something that will make your toddler happy.
The more you get involved with your toddler, that much better he will get at behaving well.
Whenever your toddler is throwing tantrums and getting cranky, the best way is to stay calm and divert his mind.
Just try to divert his attention to anything attractive like a butterfly, or his favourite soft toy or a dog around.
Most parents get annoyed, which further worsens the situation.
You need to be tactful in handling your little kid as his tantrums are obvious due to lack of understanding of his current capabilities.
4. Give freedom
It is very important to give your toddler some sense of independence and freedom every day.
You could let him choose the colour of his shirt or just let him feed himself even if he just ends up messing around.
You could let him decide what he is going to eat or which park to go to etc.
Your toddler is looking for independence in everything that is happening to him.
5. Treat like a grown up
Your toddler would love to be treated as a grown up.
Appreciate all little efforts put in by your toddler.
He will enjoy being treated like an adult more than anything else.
These are some really helpful tips in handling your child at the age of two.
Being harsh is not a remedy to any of your problems.
This stage lasts from 18 months till three years and slowly, your child will settle down as they develop better motor and communication skills.
