Stubbornness can be really upsetting at times.
If “No” is the most common word that you hear from your little kid, then you have landed on the right page.
I’m sure you must be wondering how to deal with your little obstinate kid?
The biggest setback in dealing with such kids is that none of your straight forward ways will work.
“I am a mamma too, of my little dollies…….don’t teach me how to do things”
The best part is that by being little smarter, you could easily win over such obstinate kids.
In this post, you will come across some sure shot ways of handling your stubborn kid.
How to Handle A Stubborn Child
Be Imitate and Showcase the Right Behaviour
Instead of telling your little one to do things in a particular way, you need to showcase the right behaviour by doing it yourself.
Suppose you want your child to help you with cleaning the clutter in the house then you take the lead of doing things and slowly you would see him do it.
Kids learn what they see you doing and they imitate you a lot.
Narrate stories of Goodness
Tell your little one stories showcasing good behaviour.
Tell him how those characters appreciated good behaviour in the kids the in the story.
Pick up any favourite cartoon of your kid like mickey, chota bheem, krishna etc.
Use these characters to make a story containing one or many good behavioural traits that you want in your child.
Don’t be pushy
Obstinate strong willed kids never behave when being pushed to do something.
The thumb rule with such kids is to tell them something just once or twice and be a silent observer and see how long they take to grasp and implement it.
Be Subtle and Give Choices
With difficult kids it is not advisable to announce things aloud.
For example, if you wish to pull out your kid out of the shower, then never announce that the bath time is over.
Try and distract him by talking to him and start drying him.
If your kid refuses to get dried by you, then let him do it by himself.
Stubbornness in Eating
If your kid is a picky eater then it is surely a matter of worry for you.
Obstinate kids often refrain themselves from eating variety and lose out on nutrition.
In such cases, only give small portions on an accessible plate on the table.
To encourage him, you should serve an equal amount of the same food on your plate and start eating it.
This has to be made a regular practice and within a few days your kid will start to eat it.
If he is fond of chocolates, sweets and unhealthy stuff then start serving a small portion of one of his favourite unhealthy food with some veggies.
Soon, he will start nibbling on the veggies too and would gradually develop the taste for the same.
The most important thing to remember is that you need to maintain your cool.
Your annoyance would only worsen the situation further.
Stubbornness is just a phase which goes away with time and maturity.
Positivity, patience and politeness will help you win the battle in a short time.
