Here is a list of things needed for your new born baby which you should possess being a mother.
Item: Lullaby/White Noise CDs
Use:
My daughter tends to get irritated with the slightest change in the surroundings and the result – I end up behaving scruffily. In such a situation, a lullaby/White Noise CD is my best mantra.
Lullaby/White Noise CD has special sounds that can soothe most of the babies.
Studies state that Lullaby/ White Noise CD helps the baby sleep better even during long trips and teething phase and I completely agree with this.
Alternative:
If you are good at singing, start learning lullabies for your bundle of joy like I usually do.
Also, the sounds (including your heart beat) your baby heard before his/ her world debut can calm him/ her to a great extent.
Cost:
INR 400 to INR 1000
Item: Digital camera
Use:
As a mom, everyday has new experiences. My daughter’s every small improvement and learning is an Oscar winning achievement for me. How can you miss saving all those wonderful moments?
I have banked all those wonderful moments of my daughter with digital camera. No I can relive those fantastic flashes every time I want.
Alternative:
Smart Phone or Camcorder
Cost:
INR 4000 to INR 200,000
Item: Scrap Book
Use:
My favorite time pass is writing my experience of being mom to my angel in a scrap book. This is going to be my daughter’s gift on her 13th birthday, because she will then be old enough to understand how naughty she was as a baby.
I’m sure I would be astonished to see the level of her happiness.
Alternative:
A book or a dairy. Decorate it the way you want with the pictures of your child, toys or with a token of any memory you would never want to forget
Cost:
INR 200 to INR 1000
Item: Granola Bars
Use:
Being a mother is the toughest job and mothering a months old baby is going to be tougher. I hardly get time to munch on my favourite food. Sometimes I end up eating junk food which comes handy.
One day I decided to replace those unhealthy foods with lots of packets of Granola Bars. They are healthy and handy too. The recipe is also so simple that you can make it at home; provided you have someone to help you take care of your baby.
Alternative:
Nuts and oats
Cost:
INR 200 to INR 1,500
Item: Burp Towels
Use:
Sara throws up and burps a lot. She needs instant cleaning. To ensure her safety and comfort, I bought a lot of burp towels exclusively for her.
Burp towels are very soft and thus refrain from hurting baby’s delicate skin while cleaning.
Alternatives:
Wet Tissue or any other soft cloth
Cost:
INR 400 to INR 1,600
We have made a checklist of things a new mother would need for comfortable parenting of new born baby. Here we go.
Item: Sheets and Waterproof Mattress Covers
Use:
I’m sure you do not want to let your costly mattress get ruined because of your baby. Babies tend to urinate every now and then. You can either put on a diaper (which is not always safe) or buy sheets or water proof mattress.
Alternative:
I bought a huge plastic cover and placed it on the mattress, under the bed sheet. But this will make unpleasant noise. Waterproof Mattress Covers are always better.
Cost:
INR 1,500 to INR 3,000
Item: Car Seat
Use:
After Sara’s birth, we hardly went out. But whenever we do, car seat is an important safety gear we always carry.
This is a stressful decision to make. Because, car seats for babies come expensive and one cannot avoid buying it considering the safety of baby.
Choose a car seat based on the age and weight of your baby.
Alternative:
Ride safer travel vest (for children above 3 years). For babies below 3 years, it is always safer to have a car seat. Otherwise, safely hold the baby yourself.
Cost:
INR 3,000 to INR 25,000
Item: Bibs
Use:
Feeding Sara is a very hectic task. Also it is not possible to feed her without spilling and this ends up staining a lot of her clothes.
Protect your baby’s clothes (skin as well) from stains caused by spilling, by hanging a bib from your baby’s neck to chest.
My baby loved it. I’m sure your baby would love it too.
Alternative:
A small towel or a handkerchief.
Cost:
INR 200 to INR 500
Item: Nipple Cream
Use:
Initial weeks of breast feeding were a nightmare. To control the pain and give myself a sense of relief, I bought nipple creams as instructed by my doctor. They turned out to be my close friend in pain.
Alternatives:
Pure coconut oil, Breast milk.
Cost:
INR 600 to INR 3000
Item: Stroller
Use:
Like I earlier said, going out became hardly possible after Sara’s birth. But sometimes, you will need to head out to grab some things for home and baby. Carrying the baby all the way becomes tiring and tough.
I bought a stroller and it simplified my work. I now head out to the nearby park to have a relaxing evening.
Alternatives:
Hug Bag, Baby Carrier Bag
Cost:
INR 3,000 to INR 10,000
